I'm by no means a wine connoisseur. I tend to favor dark beer and Jack Daniels. But when sitting down to a nice meal, whether it be a perfectly grilled steak, or a fresh grilled fish, I enjoy a glass of wine. So when Kozy's had a dinner and wine pairing, I jumped at the opportunity to a) eat at one of my favorite restaurants, and b) expand my knowledge about grapes.
The food was no less than amazing, but it was the wine that I was truly impressed. Domaine Serene, located atop the southernmost of the Dundee Hills of Oregon, was the featured vineyard, and we fell in love with two of their wines, the Cote Sud Vineyard Chardonnay and the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir.
2007 "CÔTE SUD VINEYARD" CHARDONNAY
TASTING NOTES
Bright and floral aromas of citrus flower, tangerine, jasmine, spearmint, flint, pear, spiced apple, lemon custard and vanilla. The luscious palate shows ripe apricot, green apple, kiwi, lemon-lime, mineral, toast and caramel with excellent structure and beautiful, well-balanced acidity.
2006 "EVENSTAD RESERVE" PINOT NOIR
TASTING NOTES
"Medium ruby-colored, it offers notes of cedar, cinnamon, clove, cassis, and raspberry. This is followed by a medium- to full-bodied wine with layers of complex red fruits, enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years, excellent integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, and a lengthy finish.
